Fast Fashion and throw away consumerism is actively damaging not only our individual health (materials are petroleum based and unhealthy to wear) but the health of the earth, as these textiles take up to 200 years to breakdown in the landfill. It's time as individuals we make an effort to know what materials our clothes are made of and boycott the creation of harmful one-time-wear plastic clothing.
When I started my Art career I was a painter, buying or making my canvass and using Acrylic Paint to create my Art. At a certain point I hit a wall and a pivot was required. I learned more about dying clothing and soon became obsessed. Not long after I starter to collaborate with a good friend of mine to make patches and Modular Generation started to look a lot different.
These days I take clothing and transform pieces into beautiful mindful wearable ART. Focusing on garments that are functional and break the stagnation of the status que. I dedicate a lot of my sourcing time searching for the highest quality materials I can find. Which is a difficult, but makes a huge difference in the end.
The patches that I design, mean something. They are poetry; made to remind us to be present, always be learning/evolving, and most important challenges us to question the system that has kept us oppressed for so long.
My hope for the people that collect, love and wear my Art is that they feel like they are expressing their true selves and that it helps to quite the fear, opening up paths of exploration and adventure. I dream that it helps start a conversation with a stranger that then becomes a friend.
